Cath discovered the joy of working with clay after she had to take early retirement from teaching due to becoming profoundly deaf. She studied ceramics and design at the Royal Forest of Dean College for five years. Having completed both City and Guilds and BTEC courses in studio ceramics, Cath began to design and create her own range of stoneware pottery.

The natural landscape of the Royal Forest of Dean, river Severn and the Wye valley provide her with endless colours, shapes and textures from which to draw inspiration for her design ranges of 'Evergreen', 'Oak', 'Bark' and 'Blue Wave'.

Cath enjoys designing pieces which have both sculptural and functional qualities. Every piece she makes is unique, each one being hand built from slabs of clay. The slabs are moulded into various forms and textured with a variety of natural leaves, bark and seeds, or combed to give the wave impressions.
Slips and local oxides give colour and definition to these textured areas. A transparent green or blue glaze provides the final subtle colourings when fired in an electric kiln.

Cath is a member of South Wales Potters and the West Gloucestershire Art Society. Her work is on sale at Forest Connections, Beechenhurst Lodge; Marianna-Art gallery in St Briavels and Coleford visitor centre.
Due to deafness, Cath's preferred method of contact is by email or text message to her mobile phone.
