Kevin Armitage

Kevin has been painting and making sculptures for over 20 years. He studied at the Hertfordshire University and completed a BA in Fine Arts in 2003. Originally from London, he was drawn to the Forest of Dean six years ago, inspired by the nature and landscape of the area. Kevin endeavours to share this love of nature with viewers.

Working in mixed media, Kevin's work could be described as "semi abstract", his belief is that art should stretch the emotions and imagination. Subjects can be serious, light-hearted or somewhere in-between. Colour, markings, movement and shapes are used to convey his feelings of the natural world in his work. In the last few years he has invented some cartoon like characters, which sometimes feature in his paintings. He also makes small sculptures, incorporating natural and reclaimed materials.

Kevin's work is studio based. However, research is often done in the field. Several pieces of work are in progress at any one time, deciding which to work on depends on the mood of the day. His next body of work will feature Clearwell Caves. Kevin intends to incorporate ocre paints produced from the caves into this work.

Kevin has exhibited in London, as well as locally and has also shown his work in the Forest and Valley Open Studios for the last two years He is taking part again this year. Kevin will also undertake commissions. Contact Kevin for further details.
