Based in Malvern in Worcestershire, Mary designs and makes contemporary fine furniture
and gifts from native British hardwoods using local timber whenever possible. Mary uses traditional
cabinet-making techniques, finishing her work to the highest possible standards with natural oils and waxes.
Both the landscape and the history of the Malvern area have always been a great inspiration to Mary and in
some ways, her designs are informed by both. The gentle slopes of the Hills and the traditions of the
medieval Chase have influenced her style and her approach to making furniture. Mary prefers to work only in
solid hardwood, making simple, elegant pieces which are as honest and straight-forward as the maker.
Inspired as it is by natural forms, Mary's furniture often employs simple, intersecting curves and she has
successfully employed steam-bending techniques to capture these gentle lines whilst losing none of the
strength of the timber.
Mary work mainly to commission and enjoy the process of working with a client to create a bespoke piece of
furniture which will serve their practical needs and show off the beauty and versatility of our wonderful
native timbers.
Visitors for the workshop are welcome by appointment. Mary is also available for talks and tuition. Contact
Mary for more information.
